Artist Statement

I developed my first roll of film when I was twelve. Still remember the excitement of looking at the negatives.

I do not focus on one type of subject matter. I look for any situation I believe will produce an interesting print. Often the position of textures and/or tones become an integral part of the subject matter.

The use of film confines me to produce a negative within set parameters. There are variables one can employ but the skeleton of the image cannot change.

Formats used are 6x7, 4x5, and 8x10. I feel using large format will test your resolve whether the shot is worth taking.

Darkroom printing is where the artistry occurs and allows one to translate the negative to the print.

I do very little color but when I do it is digital.

If I were to boil it down to a single artist statement it may be one that many would simply say:

“I see things”
